Rules & Formats
Competitive meditation is governed by strict biometric thresholds and hardware standards. Subjective grading has been entirely removed from the discipline.
1. The Decelerator (Sprint)
The most popular format. Athletes begin in a verified resting state (typically 65-75 BPM). Upon the starting tone, they must drop their heart rate below 50 BPM and enter a dominant Theta brainwave state as fast as possible.
- Time Limit: 5 minutes max.
- Scoring: Time taken to reach the target threshold.
- Penalties: +10 seconds for any HR spike above the starting baseline during the attempt.
2. Distraction Resistance
Athletes are placed in a controlled environment and subjected to auditory and visual shocks (strobe lights, 110dB crowd noise simulators, sudden temperature drops). The goal is zero physiological reaction.
- Metric: Heart Rate Variance (HRV) and Galvanic Skin Response (GSR).
- Scoring: Percentage of variance from the baseline established before the shocks. Lower is better.
3. Disqualification Criteria
Immediate disqualification occurs under the following conditions:
- Pharmacological enhancement (beta-blockers, anxiolytics). Mandatory blood testing is required at regional finals.
- Hardware tampering (applying conductive gels not on the approved list to EEG sensors).
- Sleeping. The athlete must remain conscious, verified by Alpha/Theta wave interplay. Delta wave dominance exceeding 30 seconds is a DQ.
