The Science of Stillness
Competitive meditation strips away the esoteric. We measure the autonomic nervous system.
The Scoring Matrix (v2.4)
Total Score (S) is calculated as an inverse function of baseline variance and time-to-threshold.
- T_threshold: Time in seconds to reach sub-50 BPM.
- ΔHR: Average heart rate variance during the attempt.
- Theta_Multiplier: 1.5 if Theta > 60% of total brainwave activity, otherwise 1.0.
Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
HRV is the gold standard for measuring parasympathetic tone. In competition, raw RMSSD (Root Mean Square of Successive Differences) is tracked in real-time. High variability indicates the body is relaxed and adaptable, while low variability indicates stress (sympathetic dominance).
Elite athletes maintain RMSSD values above 120ms even when subjected to 110dB crowd simulators.
Alpha-Theta Crossover
The ultimate state. Alpha waves (8-12 Hz) signify relaxed wakefulness. Theta waves (4-8 Hz) signify deep relaxation or light sleep. Competitors must hover exactly on the edge—the crossover—without dropping into Delta (deep sleep), which incurs immediate disqualification.
